Plastic Bag Recycling is Back! April 1-30

Plastic bag recycling collection efforts are back in observance of Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 26)!

Once again, NASA Langley is working with the York/Poquoson Master Gardeners to recycle plastic bags and film packaging. The materials collected are recycled to make composite benches that are placed at local community Learning Gardens!

You can drop off your clean, dry, empty plastic bag and plastic film materials in the designated collection boxes in the hallway of IESB from April 1 through 30.

The flyer below contains examples of what materials you can bring for recycling:

Please make sure the plastic bag and film materials that you are recycling are dry and do not have food waste in themThis collection is for plastic bags and film only. Plastic bottles and cups are recycled separately in their appropriate bins.

Since the start of our plastic bag recycling efforts in April 2016, LaRC personnel have recycled a total of 896 pounds of plastic bag and film material!

Two composite benches made from the recycled materials were presented to the NASA Langley Exchange and are placed at the LaRC Child Development Center. Stay tuned after the collection is over for updates on how much LaRC personnel recycled this time!
