The Dash for Trash

Help remove trash and debris, preventing it from entering the shared waterways around both of our federal properties while providing a fun challenge to see which team can collect the most! Trash bags and gloves for litter collection will be provided along with bottled water. Volunteers should wear comfortable walking shoes, clothing appropriate for outdoor work (in case you get dirty), and work gloves (optional). Please email Kattie Iwanski at kattie.iwanski@nasa.gov by April 19 to sign up for the event. The winning team is the one with the heaviest collection! So, let’s help Team NASA win by collecting the most trash!

Arbor Day Ceremony

The 633d Civil Engineer Squadron is hosting a tree planting ceremony on Monday, April 22 from 10:00am-10:30am at 633 ABW HQ, Facility 442, 125 Mabry Avenue, Hampton, VA 23665. The ceremony will celebrate JBLE-Langley’s 24th year as a Tree City USA and 25th annual Arbor Day Celebration. Parking at ABW HQ and Riverview Events Center.

Reusable Bag Distribution & Shred Truck

The 633d Civil Engineer Squadron is hosting a Shred Truck and giving out FREE reusable bags on Tuesday, April 23 from 10:00am-2:00pm at Commissary and Bx. The free reusable bags and shredding services are being provided to promote the reduction of plastic/paper pollution and keep our waterways clean.

Nature Trail Preservation

The 633d Civil Engineer Squadron is seeking volunteers to perform annual maintenance on the JBLE-Langley Nature Walk boardwalk across from the horse stables on Wednesday, April 24 from 09:00am-12:00pm. Park along Worley Road or the lot at 450 Weyland Rd, Hampton, VA 23665. Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves, water, and wear clothing appropriate for working outdoors (i.e. long pants and old running shoes, hiking boots, or rubber boots). Extra tools, work gloves, and water will be available. There is a limit of 15 volunteers. Carpentry experience valued!

Wildlife Day

Interested in contributing to wildlife science on JBLE-Langley? Love turtles? Join the Natural Resources Manager on Friday, April 26 from 10:00am-11:00am to learn about the iNaturalist app, then record and identify plants, animals, and fungus on your phone at the Nature Trail! We will also debut our new “Turtle Crossing” sign to help turtles safely cross Worley Road. Park along Worley Road or the lot at 450 Weyland Rd, Hampton, VA 23665.

Spring Bird Count

The 633d Civil Engineer Squadron invites volunteers to join the Hampton Roads Bird Club on Saturday, May 05 from 07:30am-3:30am to perform our Langley Spring Bird Count. You DO NOT need to be good at birding- just willing to learn. Meet in the parking lot on Sweeney Blvd after entering Armistead Gate across from the track. The event typically takes 8 hours. Bring binoculars, appropriate outdoor clothes, and food and water for the day. We will eat while birding.
