The Fear to Hope Project: An Innovative Research and Education Collaboration Hope

Dr. Rob Atkinson, professor and researcher, and Caroline Dillard, student, will be sharing information about their research lab at Christopher Newport University which focuses on the impacts of climate change on native tree species in coastal swamps and the creation of “ghost forests.” Initiatives also include “Fear to Hope” which engages other professors, scientists, and even high school students on these topics.

Center Bird Walk

Bird enthusiast and fellow LaRC employee, Bryan Barmore, will be leading a bird walk around Center. LaRC personnel will learn about the local bird populations and their habits on Center. To participate in this event, you must register here. The walk will be closed once 20 participants have registered. If possible, we advise that attendees bring a hat, water, binoculars, and field guide. To help with identifying birds, we also recommend installing the free Merlin Bird ID app, from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, on your personal phone. This activity will be cancelled if the weather is not permitting.
