2017 Plastic Bag Recycling Results

246 pounds of plastic material was recycled in 2017

In 2017, LaRC continued its participation with the York/Poquoson Master Gardeners in collecting clean plastic bags and film for recycling. The recycling events occurred in observance of Earth Day in April and Energy Action Month in October. The donated material in 2017 totaled 246 pounds and was included in LaRC’s annual waste diversion reporting.

These recycled plastic bags and films were added to local Master Gardener collection goals toward receiving an additional composite bench for possible placement at a community park, school, or learning garden.

When added to 2016’s plastic bag recycling efforts, LaRC personnel have donated a total of 531 pounds! This amount is equivalent to diverting over 50,000 plastic grocery bags from our local waste stream.

The Standard Practice and Environmental Engineering Branch (SPEEB) and York/Poquoson Master Gardeners thank all who participated and look forward to our next collection planned for Earth Day in April 2018.
