Even though Earth Day and Arbor Day are in late April, NASA Langley has already began celebrating!
Last week, five new trees were planted at the Langley Child Care Center. The Child Care Center received three Maple ‘October Glory’ trees and two Maple ‘Brandy Wine’ trees. These trees will grow large to provide shade and a wind barrier for the children while they learn and play in their outdoor area. We’d like to say a big thank you to our Grounds Crew for helping with this Earth Day/Arbor Day tree planting!
In the coming weeks, keep an eye out for advertisements on @LaRC and on digital monitors for upcoming Earth Day/Arbor Day events that you can participate in!
Are these native trees?
Hi Bob, great question. Both species of trees planted are types of Red Maples, which are native to Virginia! They’re easily recognized by their bright red leaves in the fall.
