Enviro-Tip of the Month: Get Involved

Now that you’re coming out of your winter hibernation, take the time to get active in your community by participating in the Great American Cleanup!

The Great American Cleanup is the largest grassroots community involvement program in the United States. In 2015, the work of more than 4 million volunteers and participants of the Great American Cleanup returned more than $175 million in measurable benefits across more than 20,000 participating communities. Cleanup events will be taking place all across Hampton Roads, so pick a project and participate this spring!

Local projects include tree plantings, community cleanups, rain barrel workshops, haz waste recycling, tours of local facilities, kayaking and boat tours, plant swaps, and much more!

Hampton Road’s public awareness program, askHRgreen.org, has a full list of events available by city. This list is constantly being updated, so check back frequently to see what else you may be interested in participating in. You can find the list of events here.

This is also a great time to be giving back to the environment, since Earth Day and Arbor Day both occur in April. There will be opportunities for NASA Langley personnel get involved with the communities at LaRC and LAFB in late April to celebrate these environmental holidays. Watch this blog for more announcements!

Note – NASA LaRC has no control over Great American Cleanup events or registration. We are only helping to promote these local events.
