As you prepare to enjoy time with friends and family this holiday season, please remember to give those plugged in devices and computers a holiday too!
Last year LaRC consumed over 2,400,000 kWh of Electricity from Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day. That’s a LOT of energy to be consuming at a time when most employees are home with their families. On Christmas Day and New Year’s Day combined, LaRC consumed over 454,700 kWh!
LaRC operators set back HVAC schedules and temperature settings during holidays, so much of this unnecessary energy consumption is from lights and devices left on when most LaRC personnel are not on Center.
If you plan to be away for the holidays, please do the following:
- Unplug anything that draws a current (including microwaves, coffee makers, computer monitors, speakers, radios, and cell phone chargers). Remember, the holiday break is also a great time to defrost those refrigerators!
- Turn off ALL the lights except for those required for safety.
- Turn off all unneeded computers, since ACES is suspending forced reboots and updates from December 18th-January 4th.
Thank you, and remember – YOU can make a difference!
