Plastic bag recycling collection efforts are back in observance of Energy Action Month (Oct.) and America Recycles Day (Nov. 15)!
Once again, NASA Langley is working with the York/Poquoson Master Gardeners to recycle plastic bags and film packaging, potentially for a composite bench to be placed in a local school or learning garden.
You can drop off your clean, dry, empty plastic bag and plastic film materials in the designated collection boxes in the hallway of IESB from October 23rd through November 17th. The following materials can be collected for recycling in the boxes:
Please make sure the plastic bag and film materials that you are recycling are dry and do not have food waste in them. Additionally, plastic bottles and cups should be recycled in their appropriate bin. This collection is for plastic bags and film only.
Since the start of our plastic bag recycling efforts in April 2016, you helped NASA Langley collect 435 pounds of plastic material for recycling. It is estimated that your efforts diverted over 40,000 plastic bags from local landfills! All plastic material was donated to the Master Gardeners and one composite bench was presented to NASA Langley. Stay tuned after the collection is over for updates on how much LaRC recycled this time!
