NASA’s sustainability policy is to execute NASA’s mission without compromising our planet’s resources so that future generations can meet their needs. Sustainability involves taking action now to enable a future where the environment and living conditions are protected and enhanced. To this end, NASA seeks to use public funds efficiently and effectively, promote the health of the planet, and operate in a way that benefits our neighbors.
Sustainability at NASA Langley
NASA LaRC has been on the path to achieving long-term sustainability goals for many years through numerous efforts in energy conservation, recycling, water management, pollution prevention, design and construction, maintenance and operations, master planning, and electronic stewardship.
LaRC has an Environmental Management and Sustainability Plan (EMSP) that serves as the Center’s documentation of progress towards goals outlined in the NASA Sustainability Report and Implementation Plan (SRIP). LaRC’s EMSP provides a concise record of LaRC’s commitment to, and contributions toward, the goals and requirements of the NASA SRIP, as well as documentation of potential program improvements. The Agency’s SRIP can be found on the Sustainability Portal at https://www.nasa.gov/emd/srip.
Currently, LaRC has sustainability goals that include efficiently managing power and water use, utilizing sustainable design, and using renewable energy. LaRC is actively working to meet these goals, and is always seeking new pollution prevention and sustainability opportunities.
