Save $$: DIY Home Energy Audit Workshop

Save $50 with a push of a button

Sounds like a gimmick, but it’s not – using a programmable thermostat in your home and setting back the temperature when you are asleep or not at home can save you a bundle. Real life studies prove that 5% is a conservative estimate for these savings, so $50 is easy for the average Virginia home, which spends $1500 on electricity alone each year.

Find out more ways to save on Tuesday, October 13th at 10 a.m. in IESB (B2102), R201, in our “Save $$: DIY Home Energy/Water Audits” workshop. In this Energy Action Month event, the LaRC Energy Management team will show you how to go through your home step by step and identify ways to reduce your utility bills, saving money and energy.

We’ll cover easy, no/low cost projects as well as more capital intensive projects such as solar photovoltaic installations and ground source heat pumps (aka “geothermal”). And we’ll do it using actual case studies from LaRC personnel, including updates on Dr. Bruce Wielicki’s multi-year effort to maximize the energy efficiency of his Yorktown home.
