Volunteers all over Virginia work by land and boat to give the Bay a massive spring cleaning cleaning ever year. Twenty-eight years strong, Clean the Bay Day is a true Virginian tradition and an annual opportunity for the whole family, office, group-anyone!- to give back to the local waterways.
Since 1989, Clean the Bay Day has engaged over 140,000 volunteers, who have removed approximately 6.2 million pounds of debris from nearly 6,500 miles of shoreline in Virginia!
Signing up for Clean the Bay Day is easy. Look over the list of areas with clean-up sites, choose your locality and then register yourself. From there, your information is sent to a Clean the Bay Day partner near you. You will then be assigned to a specific clean up location. When you show up that day, just come prepared to help pick up litter and debris! All clean-up supplies will be provided on site.
OR….
Help right here at Langley! JBLE-Langley is a host site for Clean the Bay Day and has 6 zones where cleanup will occur (5 areas on LAFB and 1 area at Bethel Park). This is a great opportunity to join the JBLE team to work together to keep our local shores and waterways clean and safe. Last year, 141 volunteers removed over 2,700 pounds of debris along 5 miles of Langley shoreline. Volunteers will meet at 8:30am the morning of June 4th at Eagle Park (across from Langley Lanes) to receive assignments and supplies prior to the 9am start time. To volunteer for the Langley Clean the Bay Day event, please send an email to ande.remington@nasa.gov by COB Thursday (6/2) with your name and phone number.
